Knickerbocker calls for a robust Medicaid and Medicare system. Her advocacy became deeply personal when serious pregnancy complications nearly cost her life after medical professionals failed to listen to her concerns. She believes there is an urgent need to pass legislation to lower costs and make it more feasible for people to raise children and care for family members. As an oncology nurse practitioner, Knickerbocker is focused on reducing prescription drug prices, expanding access to care, and strengthening the healthcare system for patients and families.

Knickerbocker grew up volunteering for local food pantries and has witnessed patients being forced to choose between treatment and groceries. She has repeatedly denounced H.R. 1 and its cuts to SNAP, warning that if the law’s cuts forced Ohio to abandon the program altogether, the consequences could include as many as 23,000 deaths.

Turner voted for H.R. 1, which significantly cut SNAP funding and imposed bureaucratic rules on eligibility and work-reporting requirements. Since the law passed, approximately 100,000 Ohioans have lost food assistance—including families in Turner’s district, where more than 76,000 people rely on SNAP. Turner also stayed silent as the Trump administration canceled programs that helped Ohio food banks purchase food from local farmers, costing them approximately $6.6 million and hurting both food-insecure Ohioans and our local farmers.
