Ohio Organizing Campaign Mobilizes Communities for November Elections, Overcoming Voter Purge to Register 159,988 New Voter

October 8, 2024

Columbus, OH–In a year in which Secretary of State Frank LaRose purged over 155,000 Ohioans from the voter rolls, the Ohio Organizing Campaign rose to the challenge by registering 159,988 new voters before the October 7th deadline. Working in congregations, campuses, and neighborhoods across the state, the campaign has been at the forefront of ensuring every voice is heard.

As Ohioans begin to vote for freedom this November, the campaign’s grassroots efforts have resulted in:

  • 159,988 voters registered

  • 127,184 doors knocked

  • 25,752 voter conversations

  • 104,696 texts sent

In response to the voter purge, the campaign made it a priority to reach those potentially affected, providing crucial resources to help Ohioans verify their voter status and re-register where necessary.

“We’re thrilled to have registered nearly 160,000 voters in a year when many were purged from the rolls. Our canvassers were determined to help Ohioans reclaim their right to vote, and we’ll continue fighting for freedom as we approach November.” — Deidra Reese, Director of Voter Engagement for Ohio Organizing Campaign.

Personal connections made through direct conversations have proven to be critical strategies for encouraging voter participation and overcoming voter suppression tactics.

As the Ohio Organizing Campaign turns its focus to November, it remains committed to empowering every eligible voter to cast their ballot and ensure that their voice is heard.
